I missed a call from this number, tried to call it back, however it cuts you off as it connects! It is a London number but I have no idea who they are.

Call from Vodafone chasing payment, a normal call and my own fault for missing payment. Luckily Vodafone arrange a payment promise where you can pay later. They are very helpful on the line.
Quite possibly genuine call from British Gas, but as yet not able to confirm that categorically.

This number calls me two or three times at about 10 minutes intervals. It never leaves a message. It also seems to be associated with another number 07482876440 which calls with the same pattern. Clearly these numbers are from someone who knows that I do not want to speak to them. Otherwise they would leave their details.

Likely scam. They rang me. I picked up but didn't say anything into the phone. They didn't say anything either and then hung up. I always answer in this way when I receive an unexpected phone call from an unfamiliar number. Legitimate callers always say "hello" and try to get a response. Scammers hang up.
