apparently it's a company called Compare Insurance that said they work with Aviva and Legal and General to ensure I'm not overpaying or under insured on my life insurance policy.

This number must be part of the range of numbers dedicated to the same call centre - I can see more similar numbers of the same range 2036347xxx reported here already, so far as I can see on internet with PPI claims, insurance marketing, financial services. Just block it if not interested (I use the app from these pages, no problems). People did they call you with something new, new scope?
