Said they were from my provider and wanted to thank me for my loyalty but also wanted me to confirm several details about myself so he could tell me about some special offers. I saw no reason to answer him as I didn't want a new phone, nor was I sure he was even legitimate.

They are offering a bill reduction for long-term customers, a sort of loyalty bonus. I got the number of their helpdesk off of my latest bill, so *that* is almost certainly legitimate.
