They usually work for some third company and call with offer of some goods or services for the actual company they were hired for. Yet again no answer when I picked up phone. Presumably a multi-dial and someone else answered more rapidly. Getting to be a nuisance with these types of calls becoming more common. Better screening and blocking would be useful.
I did not reach the phone before my machine kicked in but as soon as my message started the phone call was ended. I do not know anyone in this area but I do know that the scammers are now able to link on to UK landlines to fool you into thinking it is from a UK number. Yesterday I had a similar call from a number about 15 miles from home but when I picked it up there was the usual call centre pause. When I tried ringing back there was no reply.
