SCAM Message popped up on my laptop stating that it was in danger of being hacked and had been temporarily blocked. The error message suggested I called a helpline (number stated 020) said to be Microsoft Security. I rang, lady answered (Indian/pakistan accent) lots of noise in the background, she wanted me to depress the windows and the letter R key on my laptop. was evasive when I asked what would happen. SCAM First of all said they were from Windows, wanted me to turn on my computer so they could stop the hackers who had been trying to get my personal information. They said if I didn't turn on the computer now they would block everything, stop it from working and the hackers would use my information to get access to my accounts. When I asked them to speak to someone in the house who works in IT security they rang off quickly.
SCAM!!! John from the "Medical Alert Centre" called telling me I have been flagged up as qualifying for a free medical alert pendant. He then asked, "Are you over the age of..." seemed to think for a while and then decided on 50. I am a decade younger than this so I just said, "No." which seemed to confuse him and he said, "Right." Yet, another Solar Panel caller wanting to test our solar panels. Nothing more than a scam caller and told them so, if your panels are working, you can tell by the read outs and feed in tariff! If there is a fault, they wont work, if they are down and not working properly the read outs will tell you. The say they are employed to test the panels free of charge, all they will do is test and say your system can be improved. Be warned!

Asked me for "Final Payment" on a "contract" (non-existent) for maintaining domestic appliances, saying it was due today, and that a paper receipt would be sent to my hone address, which the caller asked me to verify. When I said the address was correct, I also said he should have sent an invoice earlier, but he then immediately hung up.

Caller said name was PERRY HUTHES asked numerous personal questions managed to get my mum and dad's ages and details about house security before my mum managed to get the phone off Dad. suggested working with Warwickshire police - vague enough to not be an outright lie wanted to get someone into the house for a sales visit. hard sell rather than scammer I think, but still very annoying and careful probing for personal details set the alarm bells ringing.
Michael from Curry's PC World, telling me about a wonderful limited time deal. DIdn't let him go any further asked how he got my number as I'm not a customer and haven't requested any telemarking calls. He said my network provider had given it to them and named them. Threw me a bit as it was my provider. I asked if he had my name then, he said he didn't know it, so they obviously have obtained a list from somewhere. I hung up at that point.
