Cold called by them - signed up to telephone preference service - told them what they were doing was illegal - and that I would be reporting them - they put phone down on me
Had a feeling this was ADT, haven t confirmed it but the comments seem to strongly indicate ADT. On top of the 0161 code. Just rang now at 3.19 in the morning, about five to six rings before I d even got to it, and then stopped. Alarm not going off, and it is for our house so would like to know why they rang in the wee hours when we re sleeping.
Claimed to be from Vodafone. However Vodafone don't have this number listed on their Website as an official number. I'd suggest hanging up.

SCAM. Automated message claiming to be HMRC. Saying they had detected tax fraud in my name, but not mentioning my name, and that I had to press 1 or... at which point I hung up. I would expect if the HMRC were to call me they would ask for me by name.

Call from agent for EE, which I managed to get them to verify as the number on my phone came up as possible fraud. My broadband/TV Box price has now been frozen by them for 18 next months, (EE previously sent me warning it would be going up at end of contract date) and a free upgrade to super-fast broadband, from fast. SCAM My wife received an automated call form this number to her mobile advising her that she would soon be arrested in connection with tax avoidance. The voice asked her to "press 1" to speak to someone about it. Clearly a scam of some sort.
When I stopped the call and tried using 1471, the tape was still running and over ran the call I was trying to make.

Basically they re a fishing company, poorly-paid scammers doing blanket cold calling asking "have you had an accident in past 3 years" (citing they have bogus "information at hand") until, inevitably, someone says "yes". Cue then a selling job about how they can claim compo for you (for a % price). Not a scam; just a sad reflection of compensation culture and call-centre mentality. Hang up immediately; or if you want to be arsey, engage person in pointless conversation (though it isn t really his/her fault)
