I had the same experience as Dani. I d cut them off as they couldn t give me any details of our BT account when they said that our internet was about to be cut off. I phoned BT and they confirmed that our internet service was ok and the call was probably a scam. I have now blocked this number

These people obtain, STEAL, your tel. number from your ip address via metadata. Ever come accross annoying adverts when browsing online which doesn t let you close? ie. Engadget, youtube etc... Received call on landline at 7.49pm today. A female voice with a non local accent said she was calling from microsoft and asked for the main owner of the computer. I said no I am practising music, strummed a few notes, and she rang off. Clearly cannot recognise talent.
