I have received 2 computer generated messages about an Amazon account from this number. On the surface it appears to be a local number but I believe it is a scam.

I had a phone call from this number today (25/02/2022-17:17) (0161-520-1872 !!!) The person on the line asked for me by name. Which seem very odd to me. As this is a number that I did not know. And told me that he calling to ask if my home had any damaged from the recent bad weather we have had. When I then asked him on how he got my personal number. Fraud / Scam............... States they're from BT with alarming call that your router is faulty and that your internet line is public. Then starts to asks questions about the lights on router, who uses internet, even knew home address, at that point I hung up. I contacted BT - they do not have any such number listed in their network, also they confirmed no calls were made to line from themselves.

Phoned this afternoon. An automated voice declared that it was a call from "security at your bank", so at least the scammer doesn't even know which bank he is supposed to pretend to be. Allegedly, two probably fraudulent card transactions had been detected, one for £300 to Amazon and one of a transfer abroad of £1,100. A menu of options was read out, at which point I hung up.
