Hard to understand as the man had a very thick Indian accent, was calling from the fraud investigation department of ? On balance of probability i felt it was a scam call.

After a "bad" day we get these types of call. Aged 88 and 86, it is a thorough nuisance.
Picked up, the line was silent and then started ringing as though I had called the number (I get the feeling this is a reverse charges scam) Someone picked up on the other end after 1 ring said my name then hung up. Number is being blocked - be careful!

Typical **** auto recorded message about debt consolidation preying on the financially reckless, vulnerable and so on - as if anyone in this world would be stupid enough to sign up to anything with no prior knowledge on a cold call. If you see this number disconnect or let it ring out, nothing to be gained.
Got letter from these people LCS, saying they were acting on behalf of HMRC and I owed them around £256.45p...something like that...I believed them because I do owe ...

This was the first call from Hardy Evans Ltd. I got a name by trying to call back the number 01792764634 as I assumed that it might have been from one of job agancies. Wrong move. An automated message supposedly from BT stating that there was suspicious activity on my internet and that I was about to be cut off. There was an option to press 1 to resolve the matter. I didn't!
Rang my mother . Knew all her details. Pretended to be British Gas and said if she paid 199.99 now she would save money. They even knew her BG home service plan was up for renewal soon. He was so polite and convincing, she gave her bank card details. Luckily Nationwide have done a visa dispute and refunded her. We have phoned trading standards, British gas . Written a cancellation letter to so called company. This needs to go to Watchdog.
