Yes, they are still operating and looks like they are having a New Year hunt for more people to con, as several friends have had calls from them over the past few days. I take great delight in stringing them along for as long as possible, listening to them get more and more frustrated as I keep asking questions about their blocking box . I know only too well that this is a scam so have no intention of accepting anything from them. To date the longest I have managed to keep one of these scum on the phone is

Scam they say they are from your bank and there is a problem with your account, they ask you to press 1 and you are put through to another person who asks you for your bank details

Although there are only poll here, I feel disturbed and annoyed. The call again and speak nothing on the answering machine. Then, when someone talks to me and is not placed directly if one wants to conduct a survey.

Keep getting calls from this number 3 in the last hour. Silence then an automated voice says "Goodbye"

Basically they re a fishing company, poorly-paid scammers doing blanket cold calling asking "have you had an accident in past 3 years" (citing they have bogus "information at hand") until, inevitably, someone says "yes". Cue then a selling job about how they can claim compo for you (for a % price). Not a scam; just a sad reflection of compensation culture and call-centre mentality. Hang up immediately; or if you want to be arsey, engage person in pointless conversation (though it isn t really his/her fault)

The person who called me said she was from M$ and "your computer was sending errious....." at that point i polity said "you are a lying cucking custard and i wont let you into my computer" i think i managed to get as far as let you, when she hung up :) normaly i just kept them talking, as that means they waste their time and call cost and some one else avoids being rung for some time. but she caught me at a bad time. An eye lash has been anoying me all night and day, so i was in a no mercy mood.

I received a call from this number just now. He said he was from a company called Technical Help Service and told me my computer had a virus. He tried to convince me using various methods including running the eventvwr (the errors listed there are not related to viruses!) This is identical to the well known Windows Technical Helpdesk scam. Constant missed calls for a week. I answered and it was a polite lady from Vodafone trying to sell me something. She knew my name as I am a customer. When I said I was busy she said she will call back another time. This number does not appear on the Vodafone authorised numbers list although it is only one digit out from a lot of their numbers.
