Said they were from American Express, only asked for half my postcode and they knew the type of card I held and how long I have had it. Phoned early today. I could barely understand what he was saying, but I gathered he was wanting information about my address. I hung up after saying I refused to give my details to a cold caller. The same number rang back after about two hours, but this time I didn't answer.

SCAM Had these people phone me up on another number pretending to be the national crime agency, using an automated message. When rumbled and blocked they tried again using this number to pretend to be an insurance broker, again using the same tactics with an automated message which made it obvious that it was the same people. Do not trust, just block them.

Or maybe they just work in the UK? I too didn t get far in the conversation before this actually nice lady hung up. I was also just curious about how they got my number. Easy answer really but hanging up to me was a sign that perhaps they aren t so legitimate. Oh well.

Claimed to be from BT, was about something I knew about, but was then incredibly rude and shouted at me. This made me think it was not genuine..

SCAM Claimed to be a company called AST or Aftercare Support Team. Pretended to be a white goods insurer and offered reduced rate for reinsuring washing machine as policy was due to expire. We don't have insurance on our washing machine, so this was clearly a lie. They did specifically state our house name though, so have clearly collected some specific data about us before calling.
