Had a call from this number, identified itself as Humberside Police to my call barring service but then cut off when I tried to answer. Line went dead when tried to recall. Called police, they had no record of anyone trying to ring my number nor did they recognise this 56677 number. I answered the phone and an automated voice said that I had committed tax fraud and that If I did not press 1 to speak to someone about it. I would be arrested shortly. needless to say I hung up.

At first I got quite scared when I started getting these calls. I have read a lot about telephone scams where they want to extract your financial data (Net banking PIN, Credit card details etc.) in the name of survey. Showed up as international call and the voice was a transatlantic male one. He sounded like a recording even though he wasn't, and was very slick - when I corrected him for addressing me by my husband's name he said he was 'a little dyslexic' to try to wrong-foot me. He tried to tell me about a door and window replacement scheme. As he knew my address I asked him to write to me about it - of course he won't!
