My request for the reason for his call was met with abuse, so I ceased conversing with him. When I phoned back the number to make a complaint, I was met with a recorded message telling me I had received a marking call from the Credit Protection Association before it disconnected my call.

English accent female asking for my wife by her first name. I asked who it was and she said something fairly unintelligible but when I asked her to repeat I caught the word "claims". Just some mass "call enough people and you'll get someone to bite" outfit.
Rather worryingly I have just noticed that my phone has rang this number twice this afternoon. Both times for 41 seconds. I ve never rung the number before and it seemed to have happened when I was taking another call from a colleague. I will have to keep an eye on the phone bill!
