Call from man (no gentleman) with Indian accent who claimed to be from Microsoft Technical Department. When I jokingly replied that I was from Microsoft fraud department he ranted down the phone at me for 15 minutes in abusive language before he eventually hung up. SCAM - phoned with recorded message about my NI being used fraudulently, then please hold for an officer.....then a foreign man answered said he is from the national fraud division...after me asking him a couple of pinpoint questions he hung up. Turns out the number is a vodafone mobile number.
who is this and where did they get my number from?? i did get someone at the other end earlier today , they mumbled something, called me by a name then the line went dead. Called with a thick asian accent claiming to be Janet from Virgin and calling about an issue with the router. They asked me to tell them the colour on the router and then input a web address. I guessed immediately that this was a scam but decided to lead them on a little. After a couple of minutes 'Janet' realised that I knew this was a scam and launched into a tirade of verbal abuse swearing and threatening to come and stab me before then hanging up!

Just spoken to O2 regarding this number and the calls my wife had been getting. They confirmed that the number does belong to O2 and is not a scam, it is their Customer Research (for want of a better description) calling to ensure she was getting the right deal for her and to see if she wanted to upgrade, so I suppose they re Market Research/Sales. Perfectly safe to answer. If in doubt, just don t give answers to questions you feel uncomfortable about.

The usual mid afternoon silent call, the distinctive mark and likeness of incompetent Indian scammers, nothing missed here for sure and that s without a single word being heard, even the number spoofing was a bit half assed although at least they got the format right for all that s worth.
