This number, an automated woman's voice, called my landline today and purported to be the bank saying that they're checking a £600 payment from my bank account to somewhere abroad. As my bank say they'd never phone me for details such as this caller was asking I suspected a scam and put the phone down straightaway. SCAM

Scam caller claiming to be from Virgin. The call was made by an official sounding call centre (the woman sounded Indian). She claimed that there has been suspicious activity from unknown IP addresses using my account and that it was being used for criminal activity and that she needed to help me protect my firewalls etc. I immediately became suspicious as I'd heard of such calls being made and told her that I'd call Virgin directly to resolve any issues. Robot voice says this is visa calling, saying they have stopped my card due to a high volume of transactions to China.. Then tells me to select an option… I shut the call off at that point. A nasty fraud call.

Rings then hangs up. Treat as potentially dangerous, no place associated with the number.

Persistently calling the last couple of digits of the number change to like 5176 or 5274 or 5175 etc. They call at antisocial hours eg Sunday mornings etc. I suspect, although I never answer, that they’re some kind of debt collector for councils.
