Called mobile. Disconnected on answer. Possible call-back scam-bait? (UK)

Repeated calls from this same company with an automatic voice message saying it is a "government awareness call" and asking me to press 5 for an information pack or 9 to opt out. Pressing 5 takes me through to someone who hangs up on me immediately when I start asking about his company or asking for my number to be removed from their database.

Who can tell why they called?

Same format introduction as "Have you had an accident recently"- I hung up before the spiel

I called the number back and was greeted with an answer achine that said I was called by 'AM Legal'

I blocked this number on my phone only to get called by a very similar number a little while later, its outrageous how personal information is given freely between organisations.

As stated by Max above - The caller said he was calling from British Gas and said they have had technical issues and they need my electricity meter numbers. I work in the energy industry and I am aware they can access this via the national electricity database (ECOES) - as my supplier they are fully entitled to use this. I challenged him and he continued to give excuses. I then terminated the call.

Legit company who are sold old debts by N Power. Pursue debts over 5 years old and just never give up. Mistakenly chased me and no amount of letters to them and NPower can stop them ringing and writing to me.

Apparently a debt recovery agency called L.R.C the asked for lots of info which i never give out that sort of thing. When i tried to google them they didnt exist......
