TAXES / HMRC automated message, American accent apparently from HMRC. Changes from UK to US terminology through the call. Threats of arrest and court warrants unless you call the number they give you.
The point of the scam is to find gullible people who will believe what they say. They are crooks who once they find a victim will ask them for personal details and /or credit card/bank details "So we can proceed with our refund to you" They then commit identity fraud or empty your bank account. Obviously you were the ones they were looking for for them to steal your hard earned money from. Rang numerous times to here, when answered there is a long silence, when a voice does enter the equation they were very rude to me and shouted down the phone why I wasnt listening.

"Jack" called from the "Credit Investigation Department"... I asked which company this "Department" worked for, which at first he wouldn t answer. Eventually he said it was a UK Government Agency... When I pressed him further and explained that I signed up to the TPS and he should not be calling me, he told me to "Shut up and listen!". When I laughed at him and told my colleagues around me what he d just said, he hung up (unsurprisingly!)

Once he realised he wasn't getting anywhere, he decided to hurl flurry of obscenities and abuse at me. I tried to keep him on the phone as long as I could to waste his time but eventually he hung up.

I ve received 17 calls in 48 hours, sometimes within minutes of each other! I ve threatened to use another provider which has triggered these calls, but even so, that s ridiculous and they never leave a message. I ve emailed them to tell them I will only converse with them via email as I m sick of being insulted by their foreign call centre workers! Pain in the ****, looks like some other lucky ISP is about to get my business!!!
It is a scam - no subscriber number on that exchange can begin with a 1 after the area code.
