had a call from this number today (8th November 2016) and asked me if I'm a claim management company or if I'm a solicitor. when I said no to both, the man hung up!

Silent call, no response at the other end. Has called several times.

Said something about being just about to email over financial trading reports for spread betting. When asked if they had the wrong number they hung up - presumably expecting me to call back.

This is a debt collection company. Often long term or aging debt is sold and the purchasing collection agency makes profit by aggressively chasing that debt. They use any data they can get to bug you typically to begin with by using automated dialers and recorded style messages. They do not check the age of the data or if they do they ignore it. Spam call, claiming to be from BT and saying hackers have got into your computer but BT will help you to sort it out.
