I recieved a call from a company introducing themselves as Energy Helpline and stated that they were looking to help me out on my Home Phone and Broadband bills. They convinced me to switch to another provider and that I had to pay an amount upfront for an activation fee? Is this normal? Then they stated they had a power cut as soon as I gave those details and they then had to ring me back? Sounds suspicious if you ask me, it has been an hour now. What is happening???

SCAM This is a call centre saying it is a courtesy call due to an appliances warrantee expiring, on this instance it was a washing machine, so quite believable. They wanted £65 per year for another 3 years full cover. It sounded very genuine until she said that she wanted me to tell her the name and make of my appliance and i said that i was ok and didn't want to renew the warrantee as i'd had it for over 5 years, then they just hung up and the line went dead. Caller with indian accent gave a fake name and claimed to be calling from BT Broadband. He said there were hackers using my wifi according to messages on their server. He then tried to scare me in to giving him access to my computer. He was obviously trying to scam me as I don t have an account with BT. He hung up on me when I wouldn t let him access my computer.
Completed a survey at Tenerife airport last month. Got a phone call today to say I had won 7 nights free luxury accommodation in either Florida, Turkey or Tenerife. Had to book my own flights. Wanted me to collect all the details in person in Regent Street, Liberty s. Also won a voucher for ?75. Sounded too good to be true so looked up the number and see that it is obviously a time share of sorts.
