A young Welshman phoned my mobile today. After an unusual and suspicious delay ("Hello? Hello? HELLO?") he introduced himself as representing Winchester and Deakin and said that the call concerned my credit or some such nonsense. Just spoken to O2 regarding this number and the calls my wife had been getting. They confirmed that the number does belong to O2 and is not a scam, it is their Customer Research (for want of a better description) calling to ensure she was getting the right deal for her and to see if she wanted to upgrade, so I suppose they re Market Research/Sales. Perfectly safe to answer. If in doubt, just don t give answers to questions you feel uncomfortable about.

Accident claims experts ...according to their records I had a road accident 2 years ago which left me unable to work!?! Told them I hadn t but if they insist on numerous phone calls to tell me then feel free to send me the compo cheque as I could do with the dosh, at which point they became quite abusive and hung up. Caller identifies they are from Choice UK but always put the phone down when asked for their head office address. Calls are now twice to three times a day.

Received a letter allegedly from the Homeless Asian Society (does not exist), containing very offensive and racist language. This number was at the top of the letter.

This number keeps calling my elderly mother pretending its about a loan she had. They keep providing her with info like date of birth, asking her to confirm expecting her to provide the correct one. When I ring this number it says it is an old number. My 11 year old was with her when they last called and he said they were very pushy and kept asking her to confirm bank details.

Just been called about an accident. I asked her who informed them that I'd had an accident - the reply was RTA department! I said I'd never had an accident in 30 year...

When I protested that we are registered with the TPS, the caller said I had not renewed the registration annually as required. I told him he was wrong about annual renewal, but he wouldn t have it.
