I never take out maintenance contracts on anything as a matter of principle, as it generally works out cheaper to pay as you go, so I know this isn't true. Fraud - Indian call centre claiming to be from Vodafone. Hung up on me when I asked a couple of very basic questions.

This seems to be a scam, someone pretending to be someone's child, saying 'Hi Mum, this is my new number. My phone doesn't turn on on anymore so now you can text and call me on this number'. My child would not write like this. Please be aware.
