Just took one of these calls. After reading from a script about a survey, they were polite enough to ask "Are you ready for the first question?". I replied "No!". They hung up :)

01135-191840 WARNING - DANGEROUS SCAM! It's a computer dialling a block of numbers in sequence to sniff out voice phone lines. If you speak, the line is detected as 'a voice line' and will be logged, a scammer will then call you later! They're trying to: flog you something; get you to sign up to something; indulge in a fake survey based on some government scheme and always quick to reassure you that they're not selling but simply: enquiring; surveying; etc. JUST HANG UP.

SCAM - On answer a strident recorded message tells you that "A criminal tax fraud case has been lodged against you". I didn't bother listening to the full message - I heard enough to know it was a pathetic criminal trying to scare people into handing them either personal data or money. Asian guy asking me about my postcode. After repeated asking what call was about he says he s from the HR of UK. Then when pressed he says it s for a company with similar name as the one I work for! Then starts asking about what mobile phone I prefer. Hung up! Total scam!

Fraud - automated call saying it was my bank (didn't say which bank!!!) detailed two transactions it said was made this morning one to Amazon and one a transfer abroad. Asked me to press 1 to cancel transactions or 2 to authorize. I'm guessing that this would then take me to a premium line number or someone asking for my details. I just hung up of course. The scary thing is that it showed as coming from a local dialing code or I wouldn't have answered it.
