When I informed him I was already covered by D&G he told me that I had been conned as the manufacturers warranty covered my machine for five years and that I should cancel my contract with D&G and take out cover with them for Only £288.00 for a 3 year plan. all sounds very fishy.

The number 0800 862 0818 is genuine, but everyone should always consider if a number is spoofed - try to get them to tell you something about you that they know already. Eg if they ask for your email, tell them a fake one and see if they know it's fake. If they don't, they may not be genuine.
