Had a recorded message from this number on Sunday night 8/7/18 about a green deal scheme. I only picked up my home phone because the number looked like a UK mobile. It was also flashing 'international' alternatively which made me suspicious. The 07840 part of the number made it look as though it belonged to the 02 network but according to Google the scammers are using soft wear to allow them to use fake land line and mobile numbers to make spoof calls via overseas call centres to hide their identity.

just received an unsolicited call from this number offering SEO. Quite rude. Wanted to speak to the owner of the business and I said that was me. I asked who they were and he replied they were a "web house". So I laughed as I imagined 20 of these parasites all cold calling from their desks. SCAM / SPAM - for "Data Protection", couldn't tell any details about what happened, only that I was involved in a car accident in the past 24 hours, no car details or where it happened, or even identifying myself as being the correct person. Ended up raising his voice at me, to which I hung up
Line for shared costs, there are more similar numbers reported (just last 2 or 3 digits alternated) - so I assume this should be the same call centre. This seems to be some good working money trap, similar numbers are reported as a scam offers (in most cases accident claims). For sure some general call centre. I recommend to block the whole 08437244xxx range... Did someone answer any number of this range?
Same with me, Indian accent guy called Dave ! stating I had over £3k for PPI and I need to get Paysafe vouchers for the 10% fee and they wanted me to confirm I had that before a courier would deliver a cheque to me - was scary as all my personal details. Number was 0208 1444710. Clever enough but clearly a scam or they would just post the cheque and get a bank transfer or cheque for the fee !
Had a call from 01497 874850. From BT Openreach regarding untrustworthy downloads from Facebook / Google. Wanted me to connect to a page on internet to check security has not been compromised. When challenged (ie no problems noticed, I would not connect to any page while on the phone - I would contact BT myself), they hung up. Obvious telemarketing / scamming.
Person just cut off in mid flow when I explained I have not recently been in a car accident ......
