An Induan sounding man claiming to be from BT saying they had reports of problems with my internet connection. String them along for a while and asked eventually for him to give me my BT account number to prove he was from BT. Just talked me down saying it was my choice to believe him or not and eventually he hung up.

I had a call from this number today with the typical "you have a problem with your router "Maam" I let them chat on for a while until they asked me to log in on my computer. I googled the number and it says it is BT Bereavement Dept !! I rang the number back and spoke to a lovely lady at BT and after telling her what had happened she assured me it was not BT and that BT were aware that this number has been cloned by scammers and are working on it.

Experiences as others . I just spoke to BT - evidently this is an international company beyond the reach of TPS, using the 01603 290004 number as a dummy call ID to mask the fact it is an international call so that it doesn t appear as International on lines with Caller ID. Is generally believed to be a scam aiming to get access to bank account details for the purposes of defrauding. Nothing BT or TPS can do - Government are the only ones with the power to stop these types of calls.
