As stated by Max above - The caller said he was calling from British Gas and said they have had technical issues and they need my electricity meter numbers. I work in the energy industry and I am aware they can access this via the national electricity database (ECOES) - as my supplier they are fully entitled to use this. I challenged him and he continued to give excuses. I then terminated the call.
From BT technical department or so they say "about your internet connection". Our internet isn't even with BT and I said "Is this a scam?" and he hung up!

14 Dec 2021 - Spam caller. I didn't accept the call, so rejected it upon my phone ringing as mine always tells me when it's a spam call during the ringing. Have since blocked it as I'm not as gullible as the spammer thinks. No idea who the spam call was from, but from experience I knew it was one of the many spam calls I've been getting for the past ten days at least. SCAM- scammers posing as SANTANDER. They’ll message you as SANTANDER (seems legitimate) saying you will receive a text message from the above number in a few minutes. The text from above number asks you to help save the environment by going paper free by receiving your bank statements, documents and letters via email rather than the post. It said it will send me an email with my actual email address in the text, which I can see would again seem very legitimate). It said type ‘YES’ to go paper free. DO NOT!
