called claiming to be from the insurance firm i have a motor accident claim in progress with. They asked how the accident happened (claiming they wanted to check accuracy of the information they had on file). The number was different to the ones my real insurance company call me from, so i suspect they were looking to offer some compensation claim service.

Line for shared costs, there are more similar numbers reported (just last 2 or 3 digits alternated - all the same range) - so I assume this should be the same call centre. Similar numbers are reported as a telemarketing. Did someone answer any number of this range? Is there any reason why companies use line with shared costs for just ringing you and left no message (other than scam...)? If this was a silent call for you, do not call back for any reason! I think this organisation is trying to get people to sign up to let them pursue PPI claims and the like. They hung up when I asked them for their number so that I could pursue a claim with the TPS. 1471 came in handy.
