Automated call saying two unusual payments form my account (did not say which account!!). Told to press 1 to approve payments or 2 to speak to someone. I hung up and blocked the number.

This is a scam. They claim to be calling from DHL about an unpaid import duty charge but they haven’t even got the right amount! I’d already had an email from DHL a few days earlier. Didn’t ask for payment over the phone but sent an email. What bothers me is that they had my home phone number, my email address (the payment link was in a very poorly constructed fake email from ‘George Spofforth’) & the DHL waybill number. Serious data breach going on here.

This is a fake number used by scammers to try to get personal information about you. They sound very official and scary, suggesting legal action against you. I inadvertently provided them with my name, National Insurance number and name of bank before I realised that it was a phishing attempt. The caller spoke with a slightly American accent. I tried to call the number back, but it's invalid.

A guy called "Richard" presented himself as someone working for the "gradjobsuk" website and he interviewed me for a job (that I dont even remember ever applying for) and tried to persuade me to buy a course towards a qualification. I have twice received calls last week from somebody (Roger, I think) claiming to be from SSE. He wanted to talk about a new contract. He didn’t specify whether it was gas or electricity. Spam. Was an automated message with threat that my internet is going to be disconnected. I have a BT line, so I put the phone down on it and then picked it up and waited for dial tone and then dialled 1572, which allowed me to block the last calling number. Not sure if that blocking facility works on other providers landlines. But worth a try. It's a neat facility.
SCAM First of all said they were from Windows, wanted me to turn on my computer so they could stop the hackers who had been trying to get my personal information. They said if I didn't turn on the computer now they would block everything, stop it from working and the hackers would use my information to get access to my accounts. When I asked them to speak to someone in the house who works in IT security they rang off quickly.
