Rang saying that they were trying to improve the travel industry and that they were calling me as I have or had a time share. I said I don't and haven't and wasn't interested. The person was polite and pleasant & said thank you without sounding sarcastic or unpleasant.
They call saying I have been in a road accident and they MUST speak to me. They have been known to phone in middle of night. How many insurance companies (if that's what they are) would do such a thing.

They try to get you to confirm your details and then pretend to know the expiry date on your credit card (year only) in an attempt to obtain your card details.
