Original call number came in as V21309255500012, when picked up and answered, no response, just silence. After hanging up, hit CID button (caller ID) and the new number was revealed as 1-778-555-0161, a number from British Columbia.

There was a recorded announcement of two misuses of my credit card (one of them Tesco). No mention of who was calling. A recorded announcement asked me to "press 2 and hold" to speak to customer service. A male voice with a strong foreign accent then asked me for my personal details. When asked what bank he was from the phone went dead.

I have BT guardian which asks callers to announce who they are before I answer. Most sales calls hang up at that point, this one didn't. Lovely lady explained that I could have a half hour appointment to check energy efficiency of my home and advise of any improvements. I made the appointment. Very polite young man called Adam arrived, checked the loft and roof, looked around, discussed my energy payment per month. The information given was useful, nothing to sign, no sales pitch. I would have no worries.

Just spoken to O2 regarding this number and the calls my wife had been getting. They confirmed that the number does belong to O2 and is not a scam, it is their Customer Research (for want of a better description) calling to ensure she was getting the right deal for her and to see if she wanted to upgrade, so I suppose they re Market Research/Sales. Perfectly safe to answer. If in doubt, just don t give answers to questions you feel uncomfortable about.

SCAMScam. 'Christopher' from an 'accident claims line' regarding an accident on (correct date) that was 'not your fault'. This is around the 10th call in a month using same script from different numbers (all now blocked). After a bit of sleuthing I ve found out that this number belongs to Verso Group, a telemarketing company. You can request to have your number removed from their database via [email?protected] or by calling their customer complaints team on 01582 763 090.
