I think fraudsters hi jack a genuine number but unrecognised to you and use it to divert you to a recorded message about your national insurance number being used and stolen. If you disconnect and call the number back the genuine holder of the number answers and is bewildered

Be aware if this number calls, it is for a shared costs, so better not to call back. I Received a call from this number twice today and when i was able to answer they introduced themselves as Consumer helpline, the lady on the call advised that i had overpaid for finance in 2011 and she wished to help me get this refunded however i have never taken anything out on finance. I asked to submit a subject access request under the Data Protection Act where she then passed me to her manager.
