Telephone number: 44-870-820-0279 Came up as a message on my computer - ring this number so microsoft can sort out a dangerous virus they have detected. Message said if I didn't call within 5 minutes, or if I closed down, they would have to disable my computer. I closed down, waited 30 minutes and computer started up again fine.

I had the message on my computer this afternoon, called the number and spent 90 mins talking to someone about mending my computer, only to be asked for£199.99+VAT for a programme to fix it. I refused as I don't have that sort of money anyway. I have now turned my computer off, and disconnected it from the internet. Can I now turn it back on and connect it up again?

This happened to me yesterday (13/10/2016) from someone saying they were microsoft approved operators from the USA. Spent 30 mins with the guy who told me to do as he asked or my computer would be blocked by the virus which had infected my computer. When he got to the point that he would have to pass me over to one of their senior technicians,and started talking about the cost of rectifying the solution, I got suspicious. I put the phone down and immediately changed passwords on my banking accounts. Beware,

Clicked on a side item in Facebook ( Sean Connery loss???) and message both textual and voice came up as message from Microsoft that my computer was infected with spyware and my bank account details could be stolen and to phone their toll free number immediately. I recognised immediately that it was not a tollfree number but a premium rate number and immediately shut down and restarted my p.c.

I nearly fell for it too - after clicking on the Facebook link re Sean Connery. I did call but only for a short while as whilst the screen details looked legit with Microsoft logos I was immediately suspicious once I called and they asked for remote access. I definitely didn't and killed the call and switched off the PC and re-booted later and all seems to be OK. So I agree with all the other advice above.

After seeing this number repeatedly on my call blocker log over many days I called the number myself as it costs me nothing. I was disgusted to hear a BT recorded message saying that it was from one of their partners and that I MIGHT be able to get removed from the list by calling an 0800 number. About time the regulator came down on the telco providers as hard as they say they are on other nuisance callers!.
