Man with Indian accent asked for me by name, claiming to be calling in relation to DNS mail server problems. Asked if my computer has been running slowly or with issues and then asked if I was happy for him to go ahead with fixing it. I am ex-directory and TPS registered etc so asked how he got my details which he then claimed he got from my ISP. Clearly that wouldn t happen due to data protection so I asked for his company name and contact details so I could call them later. He said i could check them out

I am suspicious of this phone number. The man phoning spoke good English with a strong accent and was convincing. He told me he was from AV (antiviral program) and that my recent payment of £149 had not gone through. He offered me a discount policy at £29 for the next year. Re The failed bank payment, the bank itself stopped this money and when I spoke to my bank it was decided that the £149 seemed high for an anti viral program and there was a possibility of fraud. A recorded voice indicates an outstanding tax issue. Asking you to press 1 to be connected. Failure to do so will result in a warrant for your arrest (on the grounds of tax fraud) being issued. Her Majesty's Inspector of taxes would not phone if there was an issue. They would write to you. They know your address, but fraudsters and scammers like this do not. Do not press to accept the call. if you do they will know the number is in use an probably sell your number on to more scammers.
