On second reading - definitely - it is one digit short to be a genuine UK number.

I was cold called and told that as I was under 65 and drawing a deferred company pension I was entitled to a £1,000 pound payment. I asked who this was calling and all they would say was The helpline . I told them that I was registered with Telephone Preferences and that I should not receive such calls. I further told them to remove my name from their database.

Who s calling?" He hung up, I didn t for another 3 minutes, so presumably prevented him from bothering someone else. Reporting to ICO.
