An automated call to my landline that eventually stated it was calling from Amazon about Amazon Prime and about to cancel account and to press "1" to talk about it. As I had to say "hello" several times before the machine sprung into action I was suspicious and hung up. The number has no international prefix or area code and Amazon do not have my landline number.

This is yet another phone number used by the moneygroup!! They are like a dog with a bone. If you have ever spoken to them for their advice of how to clear your debt in the past (in my case 2+ years ago) but preferred not to follow they advice - they DO NOT leave you alone!! SCAM Said they were BT, and our line was about to be cut off. So, not neutral folks, it's a scam. They can cut our BT landline if they want. We're in Hull on Kingston Telecom, so no BT landlines here. Their office location is said to be in London, on or close to Trafalgar Sq. ... so very close, the Met could pick them up. But somehow doubt that will happen.
As in the other comment I was told to ring 01642850850 - this is useless. It asks you to give the name of the person and offers no other option. Since I don t know who called I was at a dead end

It s quite easy to negate these types of calls by getting yourself a Call Line Identity phone. If the call doesn t display the name of someone in your tel address book, or shows number withheld, or out of area, or International let the answer machine do the work. You can then block the number or use phone settings to set your preferences - problem solved...
